+ OVI App Store, Nokia online marketplace

I have two phones in mind for my future, and both are good, these are the main deciders for me

Nokia N97

+ QWERTY keyboard & touch screen

+ Nokia has proven track record at providing useful firmware updates

+ 32 GB internal memory

+ OVI App Store, Nokia online marketplace

+ Reliable S60 5th Edition compatibility

- 5 MP Camera, – I know MP don’t matter too much, but my N82 has a better camera

- Unimpressive processor, ARM11 434 MHz single, no Graphics acceleration, only a bit better than the Nokia 5800 ( how smooth and quick will it be?)

Samsung i8910

+ 3.7″ AMOLED Capacitive touch screen vs 3.5″ Resistive for N97

+ 8 MP camera, capable of recording HD quality video

+ ARM Cortex-A8 processor, dual, with graphics acceleration running @ 600 MHz

- S60 5th Edition compatibility issues, some apps may require resigning or firmware hackery

- AMR audio codec used when recording HD (not as DLNA compatible as made out, may be fixed in future firmware update see HERE )

I think I will have to wait, i8910 is already out on Orange, N97 should be out end of this month, my contract expires in July, by that time hopefully a clear winner will make itself known, and hopefully O2 will be carrying it

EDIT 12/06/2009

Right! That was a long two weeks, Easter has come and gone I only got one egg but it came with a Homer Simpson mug . Cheers Linda x

Mum isn’t home so everything’s a bit untidy and it was the perfect opportunity for some redecorating so spent weekend cutting stuff and moving furniture which was not as fun as it sounds, at least mum will be home this weekend so proper food back on the table.

University has been slow which is slightly my fault for being lazy with this report I’m writing but I’m managing to finish it – giving myself this week to be done with it, it didn’t turn out as well as hoped and I found a paper which had a similar idea which I was slightly annoyed at ( thought my idea was novel ). Otherwise I’m glad the sunshine is here which has been lovely in Glasgow

On another note I’m jonseying for a new phone to replace N82, it’s almost perfect but I want the next generation of it. Unfortunately, everything I’ve looked at has some niggling thing that makes it inferior to my phone maybe I should just wait longer and avoid any disappointment

Good news for all the YouTube and Symbian S60 lovers out there YouTube has released a native client for viewing videos on your mobile phone. Even though there were 3rd party solutions such as emtube (which has been fallen by the wayside with the official site down for several months ) and and MobiTubia (which hasn’t had a public release for nearly a year, just donor only) before it’s neat to have an official free client.

I’ve played around with it for a few minutes and it looks quite nifty when you click on a video it rotates to fill landscape mode, gimmick I know but it looks good.

If you want it, head over to YouTube Mobile site and click the download link.

Some screenshots are available here with some more detailed description of the functionality

Happy watching
